About Us

Surrey Hills Carriage Company provides carriage rides around the beautiful Surrey Hills AONB, as well as weddings, school proms and trips for other special occasions. We offer training for you and your horse for both pleasure and competition driving. We are able to carry out horse powered timber extraction and bracken control.
At Surrey Hills Carriage Company we love our work and enjoy getting to know you, our customer, and making your day memorable for all the right reasons.
We will happily travel anywhere in the South East, all we ask is that there is somewhere safe to park our lorry, unload the horse and hitch in. We will travel into London, but the client pays the LEZ charge.

Our horse is a stunning French Comtois called Tamise. She is 8 years old and loves her job. Tamise is very friendly, loves being made a fuss of and nothing upsets her. She is full of character and is very much her own mare.

For those wishing to learn to drive she is a very willing teacher. She is an excellent horse to use for your wedding, with her flowing long blonde mane and tail she is a real head turner. An incredibly calm and willing mare, she will happily pose for hours for photographs. Tamise is also very good and kind with children and nervous adults.

Emma has been a commercial carriage driver for 10 years. She studied history and archaeology at university before joining the real world, and then worked in an office and drove carriage horses at the weekends doing weddings and tourist rides. Emma escaped office life in 2008 to work with driving horses full time. In 2010 she bought her own horse to drive for pleasure and compete with. In 2011, with the support of her husband Richard, Emma and her horse started Surrey Hills Carriage Company.

Richard met Emma at university, and has been trying to avoid horses ever since. Studying physics, he has a PhD and a responsible office job. Richard can be found at weekends helping with the carriage work, making the endless cups of coffee and acting as general runner. His unflappable character makes Richard an excellent carriage groom, he is currently learning how to drive a horse and carriage.
